Marcia Wagoner and Rebecca Fornaby led outreach for the Freeway Park Improvements to help Seattle Parks and Recreation address challenges and opportunities that have arisen since the park was first constructed in 1976.

Building on earlier outreach conducted by the Freeway Park Association, we developed and implemented a Public Outreach Plan to gather feedback from park neighbors, the public, and stakeholders with special interests, including targeted outreach to park users currently experiencing homelessness. We helped facilitate a Advisory Group, planned and staffed two Open Houses (one of which included an expert panel, shown at left), helped craft an online survey, and facilitated a series of small group briefings with adjacent businesses. What we heard is informing the design team’s plan to repair, restore, and possibly enhance the park. In 2019 the park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
